Bowling Green Police File Charges in Assault on Police Officer


Bowling Green (October 4, 2012) – On 9/30/2012, a Bowling Green Police Officer was involved in a foot pursuit of a subject that had provided false information to him while the officer was conducting an investigation. The subject eventually had a Taser® deployed against him which temporarily incapacitated him. The officer was then assaulted by another subject who was with the first subject. Following the assault, both subjects fled.

 A cell phone was left at the scene by the first subject that ultimately led to the identification of Jason Tello, an OhioNorthern University football player. The subject who assaulted the officer was also found to be an Ohio Northern University football player named Joseph Castro. Tello and Castro were positively identified as the subjects that fled after the assault on the officer.

 Tello was charged with 1 count of F3 Tampering with Evidence and 1 count of M2 Obstructing Official Business. 

Castro was charged with 1 count of F4 Assault with a peace officer specification. 

 Warrants have been issued for both subjects through Bowling Green Municipal Court.  

 Tello and Castro were arrested by Ada P.D. on the listed charges on 10/3/12 and were transported to the Multi-CountyCorrections Centerin Marion, OH pending a Rule 4 hearing in Hardin Countyon 10/4/12.
