Investigations
The Investigations Section is responsible for assisting the Patrol Section; following-up on major crimes, vice, organized crime and drug related complaints.
The detectives are responsible for the handling of long-term and/or complex investigations. They are tasked with identification, apprehension, and prosecution of criminal offenders. In 2001, they worked on more than 420 cases. Cases ranged from telephone harassment to Internet fraud, bank fraud embezzlement, and a shooting scene. The detectives are also responsible for background checks for potential hires and obtaining search warrants.
The detectives frequently interact with surrounding law enforcement agencies when conducting investigations. Additionally, they have rendered technical and manpower assistance to agencies such as the FBI, Secret Service, and U.S. Customs as well as local agencies. The members of the section also conducted training for other police officers in the area such as crime scene protection, eyewitness evidence, child sexual assault, and drug and gang investigation techniques. In addition the Detectives presented seminars to members of B.G.S.U Student Life and Nurses Examiners in conjunction with the Wood County Prosecutor's Office regarding sexual assault and the victims thereof.
