Safety Town

Safety Town is a Bowling Green Parks and Recreation program that runs during the summer months of June and July. The program lasts 2 weeks and covers topics ranging from washing hands to traffic safety. The Bowling Green Police Division is involved throughout the program and works with the participants on topics such as Stranger Danger (see below). Participants also take field trips and will even go on a tour of the B.G.P.D. This fun and informative program benefits from guest speakers and many hands on activities.

An Advance Safety Town course is also available for Bowling Green area youth. This is a one-week program that builds on the skills gained in Safety Town and focuses on bike safety.

Those who are interested should contact the Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Division.

Officer Friendly

"Officer Friendly" is a presentation/talk that helps children become comfortable with police officers. The officer will tell the children about himself and how he became police officer. He will also discuss his uniform and the items he carries. The officer will then cover some safety issues and answer questions. This program is easily tailored for a group's needs and time constraints.

If you would like to speak about this program or schedule a presentation, please contact Ptl. Robin Short.

Stranger Danger

The Bowling Green Police Division offers the "Stranger Danger" talk upon request. This program utilizes magic tricks, Mcgruff the Crime Dog, and hands-on demonstrations to promote safety. "Stranger Danger" leaves children with the following message; don't talk to strangers, don't take things from strangers, and never go anywhere with strangers. This presentation ranges from 20 to 30 minutes and can be adjusted based on the group's age.

If you are interested in a preesentation, please contact Ptl. Robin Short.
